Why some photos have no time or place
A photo straight from the phone's camera usually carries its date, time and place hidden inside it. Many routes remove them:
- Photos sent or saved through WhatsApp, Messenger or e-mail: time and place are removed.
- Screenshots: no place, and the time is when the screenshot was taken.
- "Take photo" inside this website on an iPhone: the place is removed.
- Location switched off for the camera: no place is ever recorded.
To keep time and place on an iPhone
- Take the picture with the normal Camera app first.
- Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Camera → While Using the App, with Precise Location on.
- Here, tap the photo tile and choose Photo Library, then tap Options at the top and switch Location on before choosing the photo.
On Android
- Camera app → Settings → Location tags (or "Save location") on, then choose the photo from the gallery.
If the photo has no time or place, just tap the map and enter the time: the report is just as useful.
